“Sorry to keep you waiting!”
It’s been a while since the marketing launch of BOX GAME: SHOWDOWN. It honestly went a lot better than I thought it would, but I wish we had done it closer to release; a lot is still changing and we haven’t had as much time to make short-form videos as we thought we would… Either way, we still would love to show you what has been done so far!
Shop
Progress recently has been focused on the shop, the place where players can buy cosmetics like emotes, pets, stickers, and even more! The shopkeeper is Cyan, a retail worker in the heart of Boxopolis who is now selling whatever's in her catalog...
We’ve mainly been focusing on the art aspect. The animation above was created by our amazing animator fury1012, and it looks much cooler in-game, so you'll just have to wait and see!
Story
Recently, we have been working on new drafts of the story. BOX GAME: SHOWDOWN was not made with the intention of a full working story. I’m actually not a multiplayer game developer at heart. My real passion lies in storyline RPGs like DELTARUNE (can’t you tell?) but I think having to write a story around an existing concept is very interesting, though incredibly hard.
Characters have been made, redesigned, and scrapped, but recently it’s been starting to come together. We are thinking about making a full single-player campaign. Whether it’ll release on launch day is unknown, but we’re very passionate about continuing this, as the world of BOX GAME is way more expansive than you might think.
Out with the Old, In with the New
We’re closing up development on core mechanics for SHOWDOWN! Though, doing so has caused us to want to work on even more. Abilities are really the last thing left to be done, as they are still being workshopped, but recently we’ve been working on several new things for Ghosts to do to make the game more interesting! As we lean more into the death run aspect of the game, it becomes a lot more engaging to play. We can't wait to hear your feedback soon!
Release Date
Sorry! Still no release date.
You should probably expect that for a while, as we’re currently handling legal setup... Please keep in mind that Pinged Interactive is a team with fewer than 15 people overall, with only 3-4 doing significant work on SHOWDOWN. (Plus, we’re all still very young!)
Though, please stay tuned because as multiplayer core functionality finishes up, the closed-beta play test is soon approaching!
Thank you everyone for your support and patience. We all have lives outside of this, and we are making this with zero funding or anything. We really appreciate every single one of you, and hopefully we’ll be seeing you again soon!
